Totally Good
One evening I read two heartbreaking questions from an eight-year old
boy. He wrote that his father had promised to take him fishing on his
birthday, but when that day arrived, the father forgot. His little
spirit crushed, the child wrote, "Did God make my dad forget me? Didn't
He want me to go fishing?"
It is especially hard to answer questions like this from a child, yet
many adults ask the same thing in different ways. Somehow they can't
completely rest in God because they don't really trust Him. They think
He is behind their hurts. They find it hard to believe that God is
totally good.
Have you ever tossed and turned, doubting that God would keep His
promises? If things go too well do you sometimes secretly wait for God
to "pull the rug out" from under you?
Rest assured that God is good! The negligence of the little boy's father
like any abuses you may have suffered, were not from God! As James tell
us: "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes
down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or
shadow of turning" (James 1:17, NKJV). God's goodness is continually
working in your behalf, He not only is good, but He does good, and He
wants the best for you.
Believe it! If secret doubts about the reality of His goodness have been
hindering your rest, ask Him to heal your heart as you learn to stand
against the real enemy of your soul.
Our Evening Prayer - Let's Pray Together…
God loves you and wants to answer your prayer. Say this prayer with me:
Heavenly Father, help me fully believe in Your goodness toward me,
realizing that You are not the source of my many hurts and pains. I
thank You for healing me now, as I lie down to rest in a new revelation
of Your goodness and love. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
